Creating a Personal Glass Coffee Table
Are you the artistic type? If so you may like the rooms in your home to also represent your artistic side. One great way to do this is with a glass coffee table in the living room. Think about what goes together better than art and coffee? Many a coffee house is filled with artistic designs and creations. As a matter of fact many coffee houses create their whole environment around this connection. Additionally, many artists spend their time at coffee houses coming up with inspiration. If these two things are connected in the regular world, why shouldn’t these two things be connected in your home? Now they can.
For this project you are going to begin with a glass coffee table. When we say a glass coffee table, we mean one in which to top is made of glass. The rest of the table can be made out of any material. There are a couple options when it comes to adding an artistic touch to a glass coffee table. The first option is to find a glass coffee table with a secondary level underneath. What this means is that there is a box the same size as the type of the table just underneath it. You can take the glass off, put any artistic creations you can think that in this box then put the glass back down. It’s almost like having a shadow box combined with a glass coffee table.
One other option is to purchase glass paints and get to work. Depending on how you choose to paint, you could think of the glass as canvas and leave it completely decorated. Another option is to use a very light coating of paint and make this surface look almost like stained glass.
If you are not sure which option you want to choose to decorate your glass coffee tables, it may be time to take a trip to your local craft store and see what they have available. You may find a number of options for how to decorate glass coffee table in your home to make it more a representation of you than just the place to set the coffee.
There are few things to think of before you get this project under way however. One is that you are going to be putting coffee on this table. Coffee is hot. That means you need to make sure that what ever you’re doing can stand up to the impact of a hot cup of coffee or that you take some sort of steps to protect the table surface. This could be as simple as making sure there are saucers or coasters to put a hot cup on. Another thing to think of is whether or not your artwork can be damaged. The best way to deal with this is to make sure the artwork is on the underside of the glass. That way, people pushing things around on the surface, like coffee cups, won’t hurt your art in any way.
